What I've Learned From My Work with the Brogdon Family Foundation's Hoops4Humanity Initiative

How can one person make a difference in the lives of others around the world?

Last month, I was blessed to visit East Africa with the Brogdon Family Foundation’s Hoops4Humanity initiative whose mission is to provide access to clean water through the construction of sustainable wells. Although I’ve traveled to the region several times, this trip was extra special. In March, the foundation completed its first well project at the Patanumbe School in Tanzania serving over 7,000 community members including 500 children attending the school. Being able to see our first project, in-person, and the impact it has on the people is a feeling unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It not only made me proud of the work the Brogdon Family Foundation is doing, but also makes me want to push harder to make a bigger impact.

There are hundreds of millions of people that live without access to clean water.  In these communities, people are often forced to walk miles to gather water, usually from contaminated sources, to drink, bathe, cook, and nourish their crops and livestock.  It's also usually women and children tasked with collecting the water, therefore limiting their opportunities for education and meaningful work. This is why our Hoops4Humanity initiative uses clean water wells as a catalyst for health, education, and economic development in East Africa.
